Earth Day 2016 in Goleniów and the region with the support of LIFEDrawaPL project team

Earth Day 2016 in Goleniów and the region with the support of LIFEDrawaPL project team Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection in Szczecin and LIFE project “Ina Blue corridor” West Pomeranian Board of Melioration and Water Facilities in Szczecin. On 23 April the Society of Friends of the Rivers Ina and Gowienica organized cleaning of the Ina and Głowienica banks along with the surrounding area. The event was under the patronage of the Mayor of Goleniów. The action was attended by members of TPRIiG, scouts and school students from Goleniów, as well as Kopice residents with Stepnicka Tourist Organization coordination. The action partners and sponsors were also the Sports and Recreation Centre in Goleniów, Public Utilities Company in Goleniów, Goleniowskie Water Supplies and Sanitation. The river banks and its surroundings were cleaned from the expressway S3 to Zabrodzie.

Upon the river Gowienica also two TPRIiG members were working by clearing dumps from dozens of bottles and other rubbish, and at the same time Kopice residents were cleaning the old cemetery in the town. In total, the action was attended by over 100 people, mostly the young. The organizers’ satisfaction, who have been realising the cleaning action for 10 years, comes from the fact that there was significantly less rubbish than in the previous years. Instead of full trailers and containers about 50 120l bags of bottles and plastic were collected, there was of course a fridge, telephones, irons and unfortunately a lot of fishing waste …. and here comes a sad reflection that among great volunteers there were no main “users” of the rivers Ina and Gowienica, that is anglers canoists. With the patron’s and partners support after completing the action some small gifts donated by GWIK were handed all participants.

Next to the bonfire there was a time for rest and collegial talks, and of course to fry delicious sausages funded by the Mayor of Goleniów and LIFEs RDEP and ZZMIUW. All participants expressed their hope to see the times when in such an action no gloves or bags would be needed, and upon rivers we would only admire the beauty of wildlife. Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection in Szczecin expressed deep gratitude to the participants and the action direct organizers for the effort made for a cleaner environment of our beautiful rivers.
